Manonmaniam Sundaranar University

With the aim to provide education to the most interior of places, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University was established in Tirunelvelli on 7th September, 1990. It was a long cherished dream of the people of Tirunelveli for an university catering to the needs of the local people. It caters to the three southern most districts of Tamil Nadu viz., Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, and Kanyakumari. It is named after the renowned Tamil Poet scholar, Professor P. Sundaram Pillai, the author of the famous verse drama Manonmaniam. The University has more than 2400 students. The University has under its jurisdiction 77 affiliated Colleges, 6 University Colleges and 4 Constituent Colleges, about 1,20,000 students in regular mode and 40,000 students in distance mode.
